DYH BROADCASTING AND PUBLISHING PRINCIPLES

The corporate activities of Doğan Yayın Holding, fully aware of the social responsibility stemming from its leading, innovative and pioneering standing and organized for the development of the media world, are becoming traditions with each passing day.

1- The primary function of journalism is to uncover the truth and convey it in complete detail to the public without distortion, exaggeration or influence from any pressure, in the shortest amount of time.
2- A journalist separates occupational endeavors from all kinds of personal benefit and influential relationships; does not assume active responsibilities in any political party.
a-Employees of DYH Broadcasting and Publishing Departments that cover the economy and finance can neither own, nor directly or indirectly, trade stocks.
3- A journalist avoids any method or conduct while on duty that might cast even a shadow of a doubt on his/her professional integrity.
a-DYH employees cannot accept trip invitations from or travel with third parties without the permission of their division managers.
4- A journalist does not accept any gifts or privileges that could be considered contrary to the tradition or ethics of the profession from individuals or corporations who are, or are considered to be, the subject of coverage by the print or broadcast media.
5- No one can be humiliated or ostracized on a broadcast or in a publication on the basis of race, gender, social status or affiliation, faith or physical handicap.
6- No broadcast or publication can restrict freedom of opinion, conscience or speech, nor offend moral values of society or the foundations of the institution of the family.
7- Nicknames and epithets that ridicule, humiliate or slander individuals or institutions beyond reasonable limits of criticism cannot be used.
a-Columnists will personally pay 20% of the compensation that arises from lawsuits based                  on offensive, slanderous or libelous columns that they author.          
8- No one can be declared “guilty” until convicted by the courts.
9- News items whose investigation is within the realm of journalism cannot be published or broadcast without the required research and the resulting documentation that can verify the truthfulness of such news.
a-A journalist from a DYH broadcasting or publishing company who reports, publishes or broadcasts false information shall be subject to sanctions ranging from a warning to termination of employment.
10- No one can be accused of having committed criminal offenses without convincing justification. 
11- The private lives of individuals - with the exception of situations where the lifestyle of the individual is such that it can be construed as an explicit or tacit approval of news coverage or where the coverage warrants public interest - cannot be the subject of a broadcast or a publication.
12- Unless it is in the public interest, news cannot be produced by methods such as using a hidden camera or a hidden sound recorder or trespassing on private property, that would be regarded as violating an individual's personal rights.
13- The relatives and close friends of suspects, defendants or convicts cannot be made public unless they are related to the incident or it is necessary for the correct representation of the incident.
14- Information that has been obtained on a confidential basis shall not be published or broadcast unless significantly warranted by public interest.
15- Utmost respect and attention shall be paid to keeping information sources confidential unless an attempt to mislead the public is involved.
16- A journalist acts in a balanced, factual and objective manner during the investigation, preparation and publication and/or broadcast of a news item.
a- The views of the accused party shall be provided in the coverage. In the event that the accused party does not respond or is unavailable, this shall be indicated in the news item.
b- When publishing or broadcasting an excerpt, the statement of the individual cannot be summarized or altered in a way that will make the individual unintelligible or the subject of ridicule. The date and source shall be clearly indicated for each excerpt in a broadcast or a publication.
c- Results of all opinion polls shall be published or broadcast accompanied by the name of the institution that conducted the poll, the organization that requested and financed the poll, the date of and number of respondents to the poll as well as the research method.
17- A broadcast or publication of material that encourages or provokes violence, adversely impacts children, or provokes hatred and enmity between individuals, societies or nations shall be avoided.
18- Publications or broadcasts that are advertisements, announcements or declarations shall be clearly stated as such without leaving the audience or readers in doubt or uncertain.
19- Time limits (embargoes) on broadcasts shall be strictly adhered to.
20- The right to respond to inaccurate broadcasts or publications shall be respected and the appropriate action shall be taken.
